Boreal Air provides ground transportation to and from our dock from locations in King Salmon and transportation to and from Brooks Camp. The rest of your day’s adventure is up to you.

Generally no. Our flights are priced as a charter of the entire aircraft (like a taxi) not a per seat fare (like on a tour or commercial airliner). As such, they get more affordable with larger groups of 4 or larger.

The falls platform is about a mile walk from the drop off point. It is fairly level and either a gravel road or elevated boardwalk. It is a relatively easy walk. If this is more than you are up for, there is a lower bridge platform that is much closer and often provides as good or better bear viewing opportunities. Usually getting into and out of the airplane is the biggest hurdle but we have yet to have anyone, of any ability level, that wanted to make the trip not be able to do so.

1. Our plane is a vintage 1953 Dehavilland Beaver, also known as the “best bush plane ever built”, and has floats for water landings installed all season. Completely rebuilt in the winter of 25/26, this plane meets all modern safety standards.

Depending on the wind of the day of travel, the airplane will either land on Naknek or Brooks Lake and pull up to the beach. Neither site has docking facilities, so waterproof footwear for stepping into 2-6 inches of water is recommended.

There is no way to sign up in advance. Simply a first come first serve basis. During the peak season in July the wait for the platform can become long from 10AM-3PM. If time on the platform is important to your group, arriving early or staying later is advised.

Totally up to you. All arrival and departure times are custom made to your group's interests and itinerary.

You can arrive, depart, or both on the day of your trip. We do one day trips all the time. We recommend planning at least 8 hours between flights in and out of King Salmon to allow a relaxed trip to Brooks Camp without worrying about making your return flight to Anchorage.

We are not a tour company, just a transporter so we really can’t guarantee anything. It is extremely rare to not see bears at Brooks Camp from the last week of July through October. If we don’t think the conditions or timing of your trip are right to see bears, we will tell you ahead of time but the trip is worthwhile regardless. In general, seeing at least one bear is not a problem.

Yes. They provide a mandatory orientation speech and are available for questions and even cultural/interpretive tours.

Expect to spend most of your day outside so dress according to conditions and in layers. There is storage space to leave items after the orientation talk, so it’s better to bring items and not need them than to need and not have them.

Breakfast, lunch and dinner are available at Brooks Lodge. Picnic areas are available to those who choose to bring their own.

There are no age limitations. Please bring whatever you would normally have your child ride in a car with to ride in the airplane as we do not have carseats/boosters available.

No. Just a total weight for any group of 1400lbs.

All trips are to be paid in full at time of booking. Trips canceled prior to 14 days of travel date will be 100% refunded minus a 5% processing fee. Trips canceled 14 days-48 hours of travel will be 50% refunded. No refunds will be given for cancelations less than 48 hours of travel.  Any flight cancelations by Boreal Air for any reason, including inclement weather, will be 100% refunded.

Yes, however running is never a good idea in bear country. Children prone to wild streaks or don’t follow instructions well should probably sit this one out.
